Mike was a lawyer in the Amoco Corporation and, after Amoco’s merger with BP PLC, BP law department. Starting in 1994, Mike served as Managing Attorney, supervising teams of up to 9 lawyers in Chicago and southern California. During his last two years with BP, Mike held the role of Litigation Manager for all of BP’s employment-related litigation in the United States. Mike was involved in setting the objectives and strategizing for each of BP’s litigated employment matters. Mike has substantial hands-on litigation experience and has tried over 25 labor arbitrations He has litigated employment discrimination and other cases while in-house. Mike also has extensive experience in class action litigation. He has represented BP in class litigation and worked with outside counsel in several benefits, wage and hour, and pay practice cases. Mike has taken a lead role in negotiating settlements in a number of substantial class action cases. In his last few years with BP, Mike became very involved in internal HR investigations. Mike advised in dozens of internal investigations conducted by human resources personnel, and conducted a very extensive, high-profile investigation. Mike helped develop BP’s internal investigation guidelines and helped train most of BP’s US human resources staff on how to conduct effective investigations. |
